What's Happening August 2010
Tennessee saw the first passage of SJR 127, a resolution requiring a public vote in 2014 to make the Tennessee Constitution neutral once again on the matter of abortion. ___________________________________________________________________ Tennessee has the same problem West Virginia has. Its Supreme Court said the state constitution contains a right to abortion, and a right to the state's funding of abortion. Tennessee's court did it in 2000. West Virginia's did it in 1993. Now Tennessee has passed a constitutional amendment to overturn their court's decision. Life Gauge is trying to do the same thing in West Virginia. Every year, we introduce an amendment to overturn the decision. "Nothing in this Constitution secures or protects a right to abortion, or requires the funding of an abortion." On February 24, 2010, the House of Delegates voted on the bill, when Delegate Louisos made a motion to bring it out of committee. The motion, and the bill, lost, 64-34. It was a recorded vote. It was a big step in the right direction, even though we lost. Tom Louisos made the motion. Then Tom lost his race for re-election in May of 2010, two months later. Because he made the motion, he was targeted for defeat in the 2010 primary not only by pro-aborts, but also by some who call themselves pro-life. Tom lost by 106 votes. Barbara Fleischauer, the legislature's most pro-abortion member, found herself rejoicing alongside the leaders of the state's largest pro-life group. The insanity continues. Tom Louisos is a hero. He has proven time and time again that no one in the legislature is more willing to protect the babies than he is. Hopefully he can be re-elected in 2012.
