Life Gauge |
House District 5 House District 5 (all of Wetzel county and the western tip of Monongalia county) elects one member. Dave Pethtel earned an F from Life Gauge. On February 24, 2010 he voted against a motion to discharge a committee, effectively killing a Constitutional Amendment that would stop state funding of abortions, and that would allow us to stop abortion when Roe v Wade is overturned. In 2006 he voted against a motion to dispense with committee reference, effectively killing a parental notification bill. He is a Democrat. The trajectory of Mr. Pethtel's rise to power is determined by the Speaker of the House, who uses this power to convince delegates to vote as he wishes them to vote. In the case of abortion, the status quo will do, so the Speaker avoids controversial votes altogether. West Virginia's unborn babies will receive no justice in such a political system. The result is a pitched battle. Politicians avoid votes. Life Gauge forces them to vote. Life Gauge looks for one delegate to make the motion that forces 100 delegates to vote. If you live in Wetzel County, ask Delegate Romine in adjacent Sistersville to introduce the motion. To write a letter to Mr. Romine, click here. If you live in Monongalia County, ask Delegate Pasdon in Morgantown to introduce the motion. To write a letter to Ms. Pasdon, click here. |
